Warren First is honored to be one of 12,000 congregation in the United States involving 160 different denominations, who have a group of caregivers known as Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers have received 50 hours of care-giving training to minister to people experiencing a crisis, facing a challenge, or simply going through a tough time.
A Stephen Minister will meet with you – privately and confidentially – on a weekly basis to listen, care, encourage, support, and remind you of Christ’s presence in your life.
Stephen Ministers are one-on-one lay ministers who give high quality, confidential care to people who are hurting. Just like a hand reaching down in a hole to pull you out, Stephen Ministers are experienced good listeners. Everyone one, at some time in their lives, needs to know that there is a caring person who will actually, truly listen to what you have to say.
The Stephen Ministers at Warren First reach out to those who are bereaved, to those who are overwhelmed with family caregiving, and to those who are hurting in many other different ways. The Stephen Ministers also have vast resources to find help for people when listening just isn’t enough.
In addition to caregiving, the Stephen Ministers at Warren First contact area professionals who provide presentations that address many of our growing concerns, such as senior or family financial planning, hospice or in-home care, and the difference between aging memories and Alzheimer’s disease. Recently a program defining Identity Theft was presented describing what it is and how to protect against it.
In the Fall of 2015 the Stephen Ministers began a Bear Ministry. This is a teddy bear program. Whoever receives a bear knows that the community of Warren First is thinking about them. The bear is an extension of the music, the scriptures, the sermons and the love that is provided every Sunday in our sanctuary. For some, just holding such a bear brings comfort, and the knowledge that someone out there really does care.
