Prayer Shawls

Prayer shawls are a ministry of presence–the presence of prayers and love and warmth. Wrapping yourself in the prayers of the crafters and the prayers of this faith community is like having God’s arms wrapped around you just when you need a hug or encouragement. Sharing these blessings is the ministry of faithful knitters and crocheters.

If you crochet or knit, you are invited to be part of this ministry. The patterns are very simple–multiples of three stitches representing the Trinity. The spiritual practice includes thoughtful prayers of the persons creating the shawls, the Prayer Shawl Ministry participants, the Prayer Team, and the Pastor. Fellowship and sharing are integral parts of the process.

Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon (May thru November) in the Parlor. Women and men of all ages are encouraged to join us. You don’t need to be an expert as there are plenty of people who will be happy to help you.

Prayer Shawls are shared with those who are struggling with health issues, whether physical or emotional, residents of nursing homes, and others.

Children and adults who are baptized are presented with a Baptismal Prayer Shawl or Baptismal Prayer Blanket (for babies) as a remembrance of the special day in their faith journey. They are wrapped in God’s Blanket of Love!

Possibilities for Prayer Shawls are endless, rewards are great, and sharing the love of God is priceless.
